3 Grilled Cheese Recipes to Make This National Grilled Cheese Day

When it comes to comfort food, there’s nothing a homemade grilled cheese can’t fix. Not to mention it’s also a meal that’s quick to assemble, easy to make, and even better to eat.

In the spirit of April being National Grilled Cheese Month, and today being National Grilled Cheese Day, we’re taking the classic bread, butter, and American cheese recipe to a whole new level. From savory and sweet to fruity and flavorful, these three unique grilled cheese variations will have you craving a melty sandwich for every meal of the day (including dessert).

OK, on to the fun part!

 

Bacon & Blackberry Grilled Cheese

Bacon, bacon, bacon. A favorite of ours, this bacon and blackberry-focused sandwich is met with jalapeños to provide an unforgettable grilled cheese sandwich experience! This recipe recommends sourdough bread and Swiss cheese to complete this unique sandwich.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp Butter
  • 2 Pieces Sourdough bread, recommended
  • 4 Slices Swiss cheese (recommended, any cheese will work)
  • 4 Pieces Bacon, grilled
  • 1/2 Jalapeño sliced (remove seeds)
  • 2 Tbsp Blackberry Jam

Directions:

  1. Using Blue Rhino Razor: Preheat to medium high.
    Using a griddle topper: Place griddle topper on cooking grid and preheat grill to medium-high.
    Using a grill's side burner: Place skillet on the side burner and preheat to medium-high.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Top one piece of bread with cheese, bacon, and jalapeños.
  4. Top the other piece of bread with blackberry jam.
  5. Put sandwich together.
  6. Place bread, butter side down, on Razor surface or griddle topper or in skillet.
  7. Flipping after 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and cheese is melted.
 

Gruyere and Caramelized Onion Grilled Cheese

Are you a Gruyere cheese fan? Yet to try it? Either way, we highly recommend getting in on the action. Combined with caramelized onions, muenster cheese, among other tasty ingredients, this grilled cheese sandwich will leave you wanting more!

Ingredients:

  • 8 Slices Thick cut bread, recommended artisan bread or pumpernickel bread
  • 12 oz Gruyere cheese, sliced
  • 6 oz White Cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 4 Slices Muenster cheese, sliced
  • 2 Yellow onions, diced
  • 1 tsp Fresh thyme, minced
  • 2 tsp Fresh rosemary, minced
  • 1 tsp Brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Butter, divided
  • 1 Tbsp Olive oil
  • Mayo, to taste
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional:
    • 2 Tbsp Crushed pecans (add in step 9)
    • 2/3 Cup Blue Cheese Crumbles (can be substituted for White Cheddar)

Directions:

  1. Using Blue Rhino Razor: Preheat to medium-low.
    Using a griddle topper: Place griddle topper on cooking grid and preheat grill to medium-low.
    Using a grill's side burner: Place skillet on the side burner and preheat to medium-low.
  2. Add 1 1/2 Tbsp butter and olive oil to a griddle or skillet. Add diced onions, salt, pepper, fresh thyme and 1 tsp of fresh rosemary to the hot skillet and sauté, stirring often, until onions are soft and starting to brown, about 10 minutes.
  3. Mix or stir brown sugar into the onions and grill for another minute.
  4. When done, transfer to a plate.
  5. pread one side of two pieces of bread with a little bit of mayonnaise.
  6. Adjust Razor, grill, or side burner to medium.
  7. dd remaining butter and rosemary, cover surface where you will be grilling.
  8. Add both pieces of bread, mayonnaise side down, and grill until bread is golden brown and crunchy, about 2-3 minutes.
  9. As soon as you add the bread, add a bit of cheese to the top of each piece of bread. Once it starts to melt a little, sprinkle a couple tablespoons of the caramelized onions over the top of one of the pieces of bread.
  10. When the bread is good and golden brown, sandwich the pieces of bread together and adjust Razor, grill, or side burner to LOW and grill until cheese is fully melted.
  11. When done, transfer to a plate, repeat with remaining slices of bread and ingredients.
 

Honey Banana Grilled Cheese

Talk about a sandwich people of all ages can get behind! Honey, banana, butter and cheese. It’s a simple recipe that will certainly appeal to everyone in your family, but better yet, it’s delicious and will be sure to be a repeat item in the near future.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices Bread, Thick Cut
  • 1/2 Banana, peeled and sliced
  • 3 tsp Mascarpone cheese
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 2 tsp Butter, softened

Directions:

  1. pread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. On the non-buttered side, add toppings and cover with the other slice of buttered bread. The buttered side should be facing outwards.
  3. Using Blue Rhino Razor: Preheat to medium-high.
    Using a griddle topper: Place griddle topper on cooking grid and preheat grill to medium-high.
    Using a grill's side burner: Place skillet on the side burner and preheat to medium-high.
  4. Grill each side for 2 to 3 minutes or until desired doneness is reached.
  5. Remove and serve.

It doesn’t take an entire afternoon preparing these satisfying sandwiches, and you can prepare grilled cheese straight on the grill, on a griddle topper, or a side burner.
