May is National Barbecue Month

Are you a year-round griller? Or do you mostly grill during warm weather months? If you fall in the latter group, your time is here! May is National Barbecue Month – the beginning of peak grilling season as home cooks take to their backyards to fire up a quick weeknight meal or a low and slow weekend feast with friends and family.

Consider these stats. According to data from the most recent HPBA State of the Barbecue Industry consumer survey, seven in 10 U.S. adults own a grill or smoker, and gas is the most popular grill type, followed by charcoal, then electric.

That means millions of Americans are firing up the grills as warm weather returns. Grillers are most likely to do that on July 4, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Father’s Day, and Mother’s Day, according to the study.

The study also sheds light on why people grill. Among all grill/smoker owners, the top reasons given for grilling include flavor, lifestyle, entertainment, and convenience. Said another way, grilling is an easy way to get outside and enjoy great food in a pleasant setting.
