Providing Disaster Relief Through Delicious Meals

In the midst of the shopping sprees and online savings that come with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, a different holiday is showcasing the importance of giving.

Giving Tuesday, celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, allows individuals, groups, and organizations the ability to donate their time and resources to valuable causes. Entering its seventh year, this holiday is fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, two things Operation BBQ Relief and Blue Rhino are very familiar with.

As a non-profit organization that provides emergency and disaster relief through hot, delicious meals, Operation BBQ Relief (OBR) embodies all the qualities of this post-Thanksgiving celebration. After getting their start in 2011 in response to tornados that displaced hundreds in Joplin, Missouri, OBR has now served nearly three million meals and has deployed disaster response teams to some of the biggest crises across our country, including hurricane relief efforts in North Carolina, Florida, and Texas and wildfire relief efforts in parts of northern and southern California.

Blue Rhino, the official propane sponsor of Operation BBQ Relief, has been with OBR step for step in providing resources to help those affected by natural disasters. As OBR's first official sponsor, a relationship that began in 2012, we've worked together to not only supply propane to cook and smoke meats, but our local Blue Rhino teams have also lent a helping hand to OBR's crews. Whether it's manning the grills or greeting people with friendly smiles during tough times, this partnership has proven to be the perfect fit over the past six years.

So in the spirit of Giving Tuesday and Operation BBQ Relief's Day of Giving, OBR and Blue Rhino are putting out a call for help. In order to continue serving those who’ve lost so much to natural disasters, OBR is humbly requesting your support in the form of time or monetary donations.

If you would like to register as an Operation BBQ Relief volunteer, please visit their volunteer page to find out how you can help those in need across the country, or in your neck of the woods. And if you are able to make a donation, please visit the OBR donation page. Every donation ensures there will be a plate of hot food in front of someone going through an incredibly difficult situation due to a devastating disaster.

We are proud to stand by Operation BBQ Relief as they continuously provide compassion and fuel to those in need. In this season of giving, Blue Rhino gives thanks to OBR and all that they do for communities across the country.
